Caulfield Heath
Race 8 – Friday At Five
Jockey – Alysha Warren
1800m – Barrier 3
Consistent mare Friday At Five returns to the Heath Track at Caulfield today, a fortnight after a plucky runner-up effort at the same track and trip. The daughter of Zoustar fought off an odds-on favourite in the home straight on that occasion, only to be gunned down late by a stalker in the run. Apprentice hoop Alysha Warren stays on today, able to roll forward from an ideal draw in the early stages and land on or just behind the speed on settling.
Speed comes from Norwoods in barrier five, while no surprise to see Sacred Eagle and Kings Valley punch through from the inside and be prominent down the back. Good race. Midnight Glow’s past three runs have been from the 2040-metre start at Moonee Valley, running fairly without threatening the winner. The start prior he was good at Geelong over 1700-metres, only a length behind He’ll Rip, who just missed here on Saturday. Blinkers back on today, strong claims. Sacred Eagle won in heavy conditions last start, beating home Boyfromwye by over four lengths, who easily won in lesser grade at Stawell over the weekend. Back to dry ground but all runs this prep (bar one) have been good. Each way chance. So too Kings Valley, who has been runner-up in two goes since a Horsham Maiden win, and Purveyor, who was close-up when fresh at this track and trip a fortnight ago.
Friday At Five is back against the boys today, with the benefit of a 3kg apprentice claim. She can settle forward and be given every chance in the run. Each way claims in an even affair.
Currently, Friday At Five is a $7 chance in the market.
