Five-year-old galloper Presagio is third-up and fitter when he comes back to 1500-metres on the Poly at Ballarat today. The gelded son of Harbinger has been beaten long margins at both runs this time in, but the addition of earmuffs should help him settle better in the run and leave something for the back end of the race. Jockey John Allen leaves from an inside draw and can let his galloper settle where comfortable, likely midfield with cover before looking to hit the line late.
Grundy Three Votes will press forward from gate four in search of the lead, while expect The Boss Man to roll across from wider out to find a prominent position on settling. This galloper has led and held onto a placing at both career runs and peaks third-up for this. He should receive the right run and prove hard to chase down late in the piece. The one to beat. Spot The Grey was a mile off the leaders turning for home at this track/trip last start before winding up and grabbing second on the line. He’s a chance to threaten with a cleaner getaway, each way claims. So too Phoenician and Grundy Three Votes, though both engage in wild form swings.
Presagio needs to improve on recent efforts today, starting with conserving his energy for the race itself. Earmuffs will help, and if he can remain settled before and during the run, he’ll have every chance to finish his race strongly. Each way claims.
