Henry Dwyer Racing – Tuesday Preview

Echuca

Race 1 – Boss Boy

Jockey – John Allen

1600m – Barrier 4

Four-year-old galloper Boss Boy is second-up and fitter when he gets out to a mile at Echuca this afternoon. The gelded son of Cable Bay was held up when trying to make his run at Geelong when resuming, finding the line okay once clear and suited out in trip today. Jockey John Allen leaves from gate four and can let his galloper stride in the early parts, landing on or just behind the speed heading into the back straight.

West Forty Seventh is the likely leader from barrier six, while expect Eagle Moon and Ashen Knight to hold their positions from nearer the rail on settling. Blue Typhoon wasn’t far away at Bendigo last start, having been checked and shuffled back to last at Swan Hill the start prior before finding the line late. She went past Angel’s Gathering on that occasion, who enjoyed a much kinder run in transit. Both will drift back today and look to finish over the top. Each have claims, leaning to Blue Typhoon of the pair. West Forty Seventh will want to control the race from the front and comes here fitter for two runs this time in. He’ll take catching if left alone for long enough. Ashen Knight next best.

Boss Boy strikes a moderate event today, able to improve up in distance and on slightly firmer footing than his first-up effort. He draws for the right run near the speed and can have something to offer in the run home. Each way claims.

Currently, Boss Boy is a $12 chance in the market.

Race 4 – Safina

Jockey – Mitch Aitken

2100m – Barrier 12

Four-year-old mare Safina returns to the races today, three weeks since a plain effort in challenging conditions at Kilmore over 2000-metres. The daughter of Knight Exemplar ran on fairly second-up at Stawell two starts back and can look to bounce back on slightly firmer footing this afternoon. Jockey Mitch Aitken leaves from a wide gate and can drift back in the early parts, before finding the best going to run on in the home straight.

Not a great deal of early speed in this, expecting Goyathlay to use the inside to drive forward from the outset, while Her Legacy and Deadly Devil may elect to roll across from out wider on the course. Spicy Apple is fit for recent racing and hasn’t been far away at his past couple. He comes back from 2400-metres here but his run two back at 2000-metres reads well for this. Draws for a soft trail and shapes as hardest to beat. Untethered Soul was just over a length away from Spicy Apple at Swan Hill so must be considered an each way chance in this. Others look stretched in a moderate affair, perhaps Crush Puppy can fill a placing.

Safina needs only to repeat her effort from Stawell to be around the mark in a race like this. She’ll have the job ahead turning for home but if she can find a nice cart into the race, she can be taking ground off them late. Top four claims.

Currently, Safina is a $35 chance in the market.

Race 4 – Grecia Girl

Jockey – Jake Duffy

2100m – Barrier 5

Three-year-old filly Grecia Girl is second-up and fitter when she heads to Echuca this afternoon. The daughter or Magna Grecia didn’t handle a very heavy track at Geelong first-up, beaten a long margin but suited out to 2100-metres on slightly firmer footing today. Jockey Jake Duffy leaves from a soft draw and can drift back in the early parts, landing in the second half of the field before looking to run on in the home straight.

Spicy Apple is fit for recent racing and hasn’t been far away at his past couple. He comes back from 2400-metres here but his run two back at 2000-metres reads well for this. Grecia Girl will be suited by the steadier tempo today, able to stay in touch throughout before looking to run on late. She’ll enjoy a soft trail with cover and needs to improve on her last start effort. Look for her to find the line.

Currently, Grecia Girl is a $51 chance in the market.
