Henry Dwyer Racing – Thursday Preview

Wangaratta

Race 3 – Black Cherry

Jockey – Neil Farley

1300m – Barrier 9

Brazen Beau filly Black Cherry steps up slightly in trip when she heads to Wangaratta this afternoon. The three-year-old galloper was sound from an impossible position at Horsham last start over 1200-metres, finding the line late in an encouraging effort for further today. Jockey Neil Farley leaves from towards the outside and will be forced back again from the outset, looking to settle with runners behind him before winding up in the home straight.

Not a great deal of speed in this. Expect The Nephilim and Watoto to roll forward early, while Lady Dutton can land somewhere near the speed approaching the bend. Needtobeseen was solid on debut at Wodonga three weeks ago, warming up late and strong through the line over 1100-metres. He finished on the heels of Watoto on that occasion but looks to have more upside of that pair. One of the main chances. Mrs Harris won a recent Donald jumpout in nice style and gets blinkers for her debut here. No surprise to see her show up fresh. Each way chances to The Nephilim and Watoto, who should find forward positions without too many challengers.

Black Cherry did her best work in the final stages at Horsham last start and is suited out in distance today. She’ll be better over even further, but expect her to be attacking the line late. Each way claims.

Currently, Black Cherry is a $23 chance in the market.
