Race 3 – Our Wynd Chymes
Jockey – John Allen
1100m – Barrier 11
Three-year-old filly Our Wynd Chymes makes her racetrack debut on home soil this afternoon. The daughter of Spirit Of Boom has a pair of jumpouts to her name this preparation, sound on both occasions without being asked for much and suited at the sprint trip today. Jockey John Allen leaves from an outside gate and can let his galloper find her feet in the early parts, likely to settle in the second half of the field before looking to finish off late.
Speed is solid with Super Dirty, Royal Honour and Gattino Veloce to roll forward from towards the outside, while Lady Courrege and Miss Deceiver can boot through from nearer the rail and hold their positions into the home straight. Royal Honour has finished runner-up at both starts this preparation, never out of the placings in four career runs to date. He gets blinkers for the first time and must be considered one of the main chances. Gattino Veloce had been building well before perhaps finding 1200-metres a bridge too far in a handy maiden at Pakenham last time out. Back to 1100-metres suits here, strong claims. Each way chances to Miss Deceiver, who raced wide and gave in last start, and The Gruyff Factor, who has jumped out well ahead of his debut.
Our Wynd Chymes will improve on whatever she does today, better for the experience and with race fitness under her belt. She’ll likely get back from her wide draw and be finishing her race strongly. Each way claims.
Currently, Our Wynd Chymes is an $11 chance in the market.

Race 3 – Safina
Jockey – Neil Farley
1400m – Barrier 1
Three-year-old filly Safina kicks off her racing career over 1400-metres at Ballarat this afternoon. The daughter of Knight Exemplar has three jumpouts to her name in a somewhat interrupted preparation, and gives every indication that she’ll want every step of today’s journey. Jockey Neil Farley leaves from the inside alley and will likely drift back in the early parts, lobbing worse than midfield before looking to make some ground in the home straight.
Not a great deal of early speed in this, expecting Interrogate to punch through from the centre to hold his position into the first bend, while Best Terms will likely roll across from the outside gate to find a forward position on settling. This galloper went close at Seymour last start, pairing off with the winner and leaving a gap to the third-placed runner. A similar effort sees him clearly the one to beat in this. Interrogate has been around the mark in two of three career runs and can sit handy up in trip today. Each way claims. So too Truth Seeker, who finished off his latest Caulfield trial nicely and is suited at this trip on debut.
Safina will improve on whatever she does today, better over more ground and with race fitness on her side. She’ll get back and be given the chance to balance up and run on late.
Currently, Safina is a $27 chance in the market.

Race 4 – Rainey
Jockey – Eoin Walsh
2600m – Barrier 6
Four-year-old mare Rainey gets to 2600-metres at her third start at Ballarat this afternoon. The daughter of Foxwedge was sound here on debut over a mile before finishing strongly at Kilmore out in trip last start, suggesting she’s ready to again rise in distance today. Jockey Eoin Walsh leaves from a middle draw today and can let his galloper stride in the early parts, likely landing in the front half of the field passing the winning post for the first time.
Shaw Can Fly and Tulchan will likely roll across from towards the outside and find forward positions early, while expect Explain and Ateyate to hold their positions from nearer the rail. Sasterion was beaten under a length when getting beyond 2200-metres third-up last start and looks suited out in trip again today. He’ll get back from a wide draw and be working home late. one of the main dangers. Baudin has closed off her past couple at 2000-metres well on small tracks and will likely enjoy the expanses of Ballarat today. She can settle closer from the inside alley and have something to offer late. Strong claims. Each way chances to Tulchan, who improved second-up on the back of a hurdle trial, and Shaw Can Fly, who will get his chance from on speed.
Rainey is sharply up in trip today when she returns to the scene of her sound debut. She should find a lovely position in the run and, on the strength of her last start, have some tickets to spend in the home straight. Each way claims.
Currently, Rainey is a $9 chance in the market.
