Henry Dwyer Racing – Saturday Preview

Sandown

Race 8 – Electric Impulse

Jockey – Alana Kelly

1400m – Barrier 15

Six-year-old mare Electric Impulse returns to the races today, five months since an excellent win over a mile on Pakenham Cup Day. The daughter of Cable Bay has a pair of jumpouts to her name this preparation, never asked for an effort at her latest when finishing just behind the winner at Ararat, suggesting she’s returned in terrific order. Jockey Alana Kelly leaves from an outside gate and can let her mare settle in the second half of the field, looking to run on and make some ground in the long home straight.

Speed comes from the centre with Punch Lane and El Rocko to go fast from the outset, while expect Chicago Storm to boot through from nearer the rail and hold its position into the first bend. Strong race. Recon was solid in the closing stages of The Goodwood in Adelaide last start, climbing over heels late and unlucky not to have gone closer. Down in grade/up in weights, shapes as hardest to beat. Big Swinger beat home King Zephyr and Miss Aria at Flemington last time out, the latter never getting a crack when strung up in traffic. All with each way claims. Brave One next best.

Electric Impulse will be better for the run today, improving next time out with race fitness on her side. She’ll get back and be given every chance to balance up and run home. Look for her to find the line.

Currently, Electric Impulse is a $41 chance in the market.

Doomben

Race 7 – Zuleika

Jockey – Ben Thompson

2000m – Barrier 13

Talented filly Zuleika gets ack to 2000-metres when she takes on Group-2 company at Doomben this afternoon. The three-year-old daughter of North Pacific is enjoying an excellent preparation, winning three times from six attempts and making good ground at her latest when back in distance and hitting the line soundly. Jockey Ben Thompson leaves from an outside gate and can let his filly settle where comfortable, happy to roll forward if circumstances permit but conscious not to use her up getting there.

Speed is solid early with Single Red, Soverato and Probability Theory to roll across from the outset, while expect Grand Omaha and Crathie Kirk to punch forward from nearer the rail. Even affair. Single Red was rave at her Australian debut in the Gold Bracelet a fortnight ago and is suited in soft conditions today. She’ll get her chance from near the speed and take catching late. One of the main chances. Parvenu beat home Brave Danza at Caulfield Heath last time she raced; that horse won in strong company last weekend. Each way claims. So too Chispa and Fireball Miss, who will both be running on late.

Zuleika may have the option to roll across with the speed early, assuming a clean getaway and a cart to do so. She’s suited back out in trip today as she works towards the Queensland Oaks in a fortnight. Each way claims.

Currently, Zuleika is a $26 chance in the market.

Echuca

Race 6 – Three Reel Roses

Jockey – Mitch Aitken

2100m – Barrier 2

Four-year-old mare Three Reel Roses looks to bounce back to form when she heads to Echuca this afternoon. The daughter of Highland Reel was trending in the right direction before striking a very heavy track at Kilmore last start, working early and fading late in an outing to forget. Jockey Mitch Aitken draws an inside gate today and can look to begin cleanly, landing on or just behind the speed on settling.

Vision Thing and Makusha are the likely go-forward runners here, both drawing well and able to find forward positions rolling into the first bend, while Bakota Chief may elect to come across from the extreme outside and settle handy to the speed. This galloper is back in grade following okay efforts at Ballarat at his past couple of starts, but will need luck from the outside gate. One of the main chances. Hotinherre has been racing well without winning of late and could have the last crack in the home straight. Each way claims. So too Taupo Tiger, who mixes his form but wasn’t far away at this track last start.

Three Reel Roses draws favourably today and will appreciate getting back to a soft track. She can be right there turning for home and have a kick left late. Strong each way claims.

Currently, Three Reel Roses is a $10 chance in the market.
