Henry Dwyer Racing – Saturday Preview

Flemington

Race 5 – Salsa Fellow

Jockey – Harry Coffey

1000m – Barrier 4

Consistent galloper Salsa Fellow gets blinkers back on when he returns to Flemington this afternoon. The gelded son of Blue Point was solid behind an all-the-way winner at Caulfield two back before getting going late at Morphettville three weeks ago, spending a week at the beach since and coming back slightly in trip today. Jockey Harry Coffey rides at 54kg here and can let the speed develop ahead of him, looking for a soft trail before finding room to attack the line late.

Speed comes from the outside with Celui and McGaw likely to roll forward, while expect Midwest and Bridal Waltz to drive through from nearer the rail and ensure a solid tempo throughout. McGaw resumes here having contested some strong races in the spring. He won the Danehill Stakes here over 1100-metres in October, My Gladiola and Tentyris filled the placings. That’s good form for this, hardest to beat. Celui is building an impressive record at 1000-metres (9:5-1-2) and was a sharp winner in Sydney first-up three weeks ago. He’s not been as effective second-up but must e considered an each way chance. So too Bridal Waltz, who may find this a tad short with 60kg, and Midwest, who’s usually thereabouts in these races.

Salsa Fellow should receive the right run in transit and headgear going on is a positive move. He’s in relatively well at the weights and any rainfall leading in is in his favour. Strong each way claims.

Currently, Salsa Fellow is an $8 chance in the market.
