Echuca
Race 5 – Sawbay
Jockey – Mitch Aitken
2100m – Barrier 6
Improving mare Sawbay gets to 2100-metres for the first time at Echuca this afternoon. The five-year-old daughter of Ghibellines was solid at Kyneton last time out, held up at a key stage before finding the line nicely, giving every indication she’s ready for this trip now. Jockey Mitch Aitken leaves from a middle gate and will look to hold a forward position early, likely one or two pairs back with cover.
Speed is drawn towards the inside with Tavistock Dancer and Reliable Jo to roll forward from the outset, while expect Mickio to come across from out wider and find a prominent position on settling. This galloper is back in grade following a sound placing in the Murtoa Cup a fortnight ago. The form from that race hasn’t exactly been red-hot, but this does look a more suitable option for him. Hardest to beat, albeit from a sticky draw. Whispering Pharoah finished over a length to the good of Sawbay last start, having won at Tatura the start prior. The outside gate is no spoil but no surprise to see him around the mark again. Next best. Each way chances to Reliable Jo, who wasn;t far off Whispering Pharoah last time out, and Tavistock Dancer, who is shooting at a hattrick of wins.
Sawbay should enjoy a lovely trail throughout today and get her chance to build into the race at the right time. She’s racing in strong fashion and no surprise to see her go close again today. Strong each way claims.
Currently, Sawbay is a $13 chance in the market.
