Ever consistent galloper Moaksun looks to break a run of minor placings on the Synthetic at Ballarat today. The gelded son of Akeed Mofeed has finished top-three in all six starts this campaign, runner-up on four occasions, racing in terrific fashion without breaking through. Jockey John Allen leaves from gate six and can look to roll forward and find a position outside the lead, avoiding any kickback the surface may produce.
Speed comes from the inside with Patyep likely to punch forward and find the lead, while Melodia Perfecta won’t be far away on settling. These two runners look the only dangers in a small field, leaning towards Patyep as the main chance, who should find the front without spending too many tickets. He was good first-up on the Pakenham Synthetic before not handling the soft conditions at Echuca last time out. Expect him to bounce back today and prove hard to catch. Melodia Perfecta won a pair of jumpouts before placing first-up at Pakenham Synthetic, where she looked to have every chance from the box seat. She should find the leaders’ back again here and strips fitter for that run. Will get her chance. Hard to make a case for the others.
Moaksun ran on strongly from the tail to finish third at his only start here, where the quinella shared the lead throughout. He was clearly the best closer on that occasion and should be able to take closer order today. As always, he enters this as a winning chance.
