Three-year-old filly Garnet Bay steps beyond 2000-metres for the first time at Pakenham’s Synthetic Track this afternoon. The daughter of Embellish found her rivals too sharp at 1500-metres last week, passing a few on the way home but beaten a long margin on the Synthetic at Ballarat. Jockey Jake Noonan will be forced back from an outside gate today, able to enjoy a soft passage before looking to wind up and hit the line late.
A few will roll forward from the outset here, with He’s A Tiger and Rotating Soul able to use low draws to their advantage, while expect Discobay and Flash Of Dallas to come across from wider out and settle handy in the run. Rotating Soul has gone close in two of her past three and draws for every possible chance this afternoon. She was thrown in the deep end and wasn’t disgraced in Group-3 company two starts back and shapes as the hardest to beat in this. Flash Of Dallas has placed in all three starts since moving to Victoria and a win looks close. She had every chance when beaten a narrow margin at Echuca last time out but cannot be dismissed as the other winning hope in the race. Each way chances to Discobay and Among The Trees.
Garnet Bay is suited back out in trip today and will appreciate the steadier tempo throughout the run. She’ll get her chance to finish off, look for her to be improving her position late.
