Last start winner Governor King returns to Seymour today, looking to go back-to-back from the 2000-metre start. The gelded son of Fiorente ploughed through the heavy going here three weeks ago, relishing getting out to this trip and winning comfortably in this grade. John Allen sticks on and draws awkwardly towards the outside today, looking to roll across and land outside or just behind the speed on settling.
Speed is okay with Ideelistic to give Governor King a cart across in the early parts, while expect Mozzoni and A Long Story Short to boot through from nearer the inside and hold forward positions into the back straight. Omamori draws for a soft trail tucked in behind the speed, coming back a notch in grade or today’s race. His run behind Nearco Frod two back reads very well for this, hardest to beat. Fyreline looks suited to 2000-metres for the first time, coming here fitter for three runs this preparation. Will need luck at the right time from the inside alley but must be considered an each way chance. So too African Grey, who won his only other second-up run at this distance.
Governor King will need things to go his way early in the race to not end up posted and trapped wide down the back straight. He’d prefer the track wetter than currently rated but hard to knock him on his most recent outing. Each way claims.
