Consistent galloper Moaksun looks to break a run of placings when he heads to Mildura this afternoon. The gelded son of Akeed Mofeed has finished in the top three at all five starts this campaign, beaten a narrow margin at Ballarat three weeks ago in what looked to be a stronger field behind Espinho. Jockey Will Gordan leaves from towards the outside and can roll forward in the early parts, landing on or just behind the speed heading into the home bend.
Not a great deal of speed on exposed form. Perhaps Dolce D’amour can use the inside alley to punch forward from the outset, while first-starters Spirado and Birari both showed some early endeavour at their most recent jumpouts. These debutants present the biggest danger to Moaksun, who looks to have the rest of the field covered. Barari is possibly just ahead of Spirado, but both have seen market support. No surprise to see either show up. Hard to enthuse others, perhaps place claims to Dolce D’amour and Petite Eagle.
Moaksun boasts race fitness over his main rivals here and the form from his last run has been somewhat franked, with Espinho going close in 64-grade at Cranbourne yesterday. Dry ground and tricky gate are the queries, but this does look a wonderful opportunity to notch a much-deserved win.
Currently, Moaksun is a $2.05 chance in the market.
