Consistent galloper Moaksun gets out to 1200-metres on the Synthetic surface at Ballarat this afternoon. The gelded son of Akeed Mofeed has placed in all three runs this preparation, looking close to an overdue win for connections. Jockey Mitch Aitken leaves from the outside barrier and will be forced back in the early stages, looking to run on in the home straight to chase the frontrunners.
Speed is drawn towards the inside with Timely Tom, Tell Us Toll and Shimazy all likely to find forward positions in the run, while expect Flux to come across from wider out and challenge for the top early on. Runchickenrun put in a career-best at Geelong last start, going down a narrow runner-up in a much improved effort. She only needs to hold that form to go close in this, one of the main chances. Flux was beaten under a length when favourite at Horsham two starts back, before battling okay at Hamilton last time out. He’ll go forward and give a sight, each way claims. So too Tell Us Toll, who comes here third-up following two sound efforts this time in and draws for the run of the race. Others would surprise.
Moaksun strikes a moderate event here but has been dealt no favours at the barrier draw. He’ll drift back to find cover and look to get going on the home bend. With even luck, he can be winning.
Currently, Moaksun is a $3 chance in the market.
